As reported by SkyFOX, multiple buildings were damaged by a potential tornado that hit parts of Montebello on Wednesday morning, as confirmed by the National Weather Service in Los Angeles.

East LA Tornado 3/22/2023

The twister is believed to have touched down near Vail Ave, at the area of South Maple Avenue and Date Street. SkyFOX footage showed the extent of the damage, with roofs torn off buildings, fences destroyed, and cars damaged, including blown-out windows.

The severe damage affected at least seven buildings, but no injuries were reported. Miguel, an employee of the Royal Paper Box Company, described the terrifying experience, saying it felt like a bomb had exploded. The NWS will assess the damage caused by the tornado and have already sent a survey team to Carpinteria, where a small tornado or landspout caused damage earlier on Wednesday. Montebello Police have advised people to avoid the area of Washington Blvd, which will remain closed for the next few hours, and to use Telegraph Rd. and Olympic Blvd. as alternate routes.
